UKCS: Blackrock successful but non-commercial

The Siccar Point Energy-operated Blackrock exploration well in the west of Shetland area of the UK has is confirmed as a non-commercial discovery by a senior executive with licence partner Shell.

After encouraging results presented in May by Siccar Point on the Blackrock well, the company now declares that the prospect is considered uncommercial by partner companies.

A report from Edison Investment Group included the Blackrock well in their Exploration Watch: 2019 exploration wells report.

The firm is now drilling the nearby Lyon exploration well, estimated to hold between one and three billion cubic feet of recoverable gas. If successful, it would add sufficient gas volumes to trigger commercial development.
